Germany is counting immigrants. The results may surprise

According to the Federal Statistical Office, people with migration history were about four percent (873,000) in 2024 more than in the previous year (2023: 20.4 million). Their participation therefore increased slightly – to 25.6 percent.

People with the history of migration are those who themselves are immigrants in the first generation or whom both parents emigrated to Germany after 1950. Of the over 21 million people with the history of migration, almost 6.5 million came to Germany after 2015 – according to data.

In the years 2015-2021, immigrants came mainly from Syria (716 thousand), Romania (300,000) and Poland (230,000). From 2022, immigration has been mainly from Ukraine (843 thousand), Syria (124,000) and Turkey (112,000) – noted statistics.
