The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reacted on Thursday, May 22, in relation to the incident that took place a day ago in Jenin, in the north of the West Bank, where a delegation of diplomats, including Romanian representatives, was involved in a conflict with the Israeli armed forces. Following some firearms drawn by Israeli soldiers, it was initially carved that several diplomats would have been injured, but the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has firmly denied this information.

“These statements do not correspond to the situation in the field. Warning fires were drawn, but they were not drawn to the respective group and no diplomat was injured,” Andrei Tarnea, the ministry spokesman, said in an official statement.

We remind you that the incident took place on Wednesday, May 21, during a visit organized by the Palestinian National Authority (ANP) to Jenin, an area of ​​the occupied Westordan, known for frequent tensions between Palestinians and Israeli forces.

Israel's defense forces (IDF) confirmed that they had made warning fires after the diplomatic delegation “deviated from the approved route” for the visit.

However, ANP accused the Israeli army of “direct” shots with “real ammunition”, which caused conviction reactions from international leaders, including from the European Union, who expressed concern about escalating tensions.

The Romanian diplomats were part of the visitor group, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasizes that the safety of the delegation members has been assured and that there are no victims. The representatives of the ministry continue to monitor the situation and maintain the communication with the local authorities to avoid similar incidents in the future, according to the same source.
