MAE denounces “a supported campaign of manipulation and foreign information interference”: “presents all the characteristics of Russian misinformation”

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) issued a press release on Thursday, which warns that “a” supported campaign of manipulation and foreign information interference meant to influence the public opinion in Romania and, most recently, the elections in the country “.
The MAE statement comes in the context in which Euronews announced on Thursday that a fake clip that is attributed to the Pan -European television network circulates in the online environment.
“The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs categorically rejects the content of the false article attributed Euronews, which has been posted and distributed on social-media platforms. At the same time, MAE stresses that, in recent years, and more intense in recent months, a supported campaign and foreign information interference has taken place, and in Romania,” the statement of the institution.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that “this campaign is still in progress and presents all the characteristics of Russian misinformation and masked campaigns of anti-nato and anti-EU”.
“In recent weeks, France has been the target of such manipulations. Recent examples in Romania have been unmasked during the presidential elections in Romania last week. The false article assigned Euronews is, in itself, a standard element of the hybrid arsenal attributed to Russia. It is part of a well-known set of tactics, techniques Doppelgäger ”, the MAE statement said.
Such online manipulations, especially on social networks, were increasingly encountered in Europe and appeared on the day of the second round of the Presidential Election in Romania.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs drew attention, on May 18, that on the Tiktok network are distributed false information that use the image Hotnews and Antena 3 CNN, “in order to manipulate public opinion in the electoral context.”
