Former Russian president and current Deputy Chief of the Russian Security Council, Dmitri Medvedev, said on Tuesday that Ukraine will have to “surrender unconditionally” if they renounce a peace agreement with Russia, in accordance with “reality on the ground”, informs EFE, taken over by Agerpres.

“If peace rejects, Ukraine is waiting for unconditional surrender, and many in Russia prefer this option,” Medvedev said in a speech at the International Legal Forum in St. Petersburg, which was broadcast by state television.

Russia is prepared for peace negotiations, but insists on the fact that they must take into account the current circumstances, he said, referring to the annexation of four Ukrainian regions in 2022. At the same time, the Russian manager said that Ukraine's unconditional teaching is “a formula of peace” that “exists” in international law.

However, the former Russian president, known for his controversial statements on social networks, ensured that “there is an urgent need not only negotiations”, but also the elaboration of procedures that guarantee “a sustainable peace”. “Therefore, long -term international legal guarantees are required to eliminate the deep causes of the conflict and to prevent it,” he stressed.

Previously, the spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zaharova, criticized the imposition of “artificial terms” for the peace negotiations between Moscow and Kiev.

“The attempt to create an artificial calendar for dialogue, pressures, ultimatums, threats, blackmail, supply through the media controlled by western power groups or to create an unhealthy agitation are absolutely counterproductive,” she said at a press conference.

The future stages of the negotiations with Kiev will depend on what the parties have agreed on May 16, said the representative of Russian diplomacy.
