Residents of Krasnoyarsk and the region warn of hidden dangers when paying for online purchases in parts.
In the first quarter of 2025, the services of paying for goods and services in parts (BNPL – Buy Now, Pay Later) were issued to customers 1.5–2 times more money than for the same period of last year. And the average purchase check through BNPL grew from different services by 15–45 % – people began to pay more often in parts expensive goods and services, such as electronics and travel. Such statistics are given by Forbes.
BNPL allows customers to break the cost of a product or service into several parts and pay in installments without overpayment. This method is gaining popularity due to the fact that it is very easy to use it. At the same time, bank loans become less accessible to the consumer: loan rates are growing, and lending limits with a large interest -free period are reduced. Although payment in parts is beneficial for buyers, it has risks.
“Buying by installments is not reflected in credit history, so it is more difficult for a person to control himself. Payments in parts seem small, but when there are several of them, the amount may turn out to be unbearable. And in the case of delaying contributions, the BNPL service accrues commissions and fines, ”says information on the portal of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation“ Financial Culture ”.
In order not to lose control over the expenses, experts recommend carefully studying the conditions for payment of goods in parts and calculate their debt load.
