– The Holy See is available for the enemies to meet and look into the eyes that the hope and the dignity they deserve to be restored to the nations. Nations want peace, and I say with my heart in my hand responsible for the countries: Let's meet, guide dialogue, let's negotiate – declared Pope Leon XIV.
Russia comments on the Vatican's proposal
The Kremlin referred to the Vatican's proposal. The position of the administration of Vladimir Putin in this matter was presented by his spokesman Dmitry Pieskov.
– Everyone knew about this initiative, there was indeed a statement of the Vatican, naturally, the Russian side is grateful to anyone who is ready to make their contribution, but for now there are no specific decisions about the place of continuing any contacts – said, quoted by the Interfax agency, spokesman for the president of Russia Dmitry Dmitry Pieskow.
Ukraine reacts to the Vatican's proposal
The President of Ukraine Wołodymyr Zelanski met on Sunday in the Vatican with Pope Leon XIV shortly after the inauguration of his pontificate.
– Thank you to the Vatican for the readiness to serve as a platform for direct negotiations between Ukraine and Russia. We are ready for dialogue in every format to achieve measurable results. We appreciate support for Ukraine and a clear position in defense of a fair and lasting peace – an Ukrainian president educated.
The Pope does not exclude that even in the Vatican could take place between the two sides of the conflict.
