The political scientist, after the victory of Nicușor Dan:

Nicușor Dan, an independent candidate for the presidential elections, enjoys his supporters, after finding the partial results of the election, in front of the campaign headquarters, Bucharest, May 19, 2025.

“There is not only a Romania, as there is not only a diaspora, but ours is that of light,” wrote Political Sciences Alina Mungiu-Pippidi on Monday, in a text published on the Clean Romania website, in which it thanks Romanians for the vote from Sunday, that is to those who “saved the country and Europe”.

“Of course we are an heterogeneous alliance – that on the side of the European course were (Traian) Basescu, (Klaus) Iohannis, Emil Constantinescu, SRI, SIE, etc. I saved the system!”, Says the political scientist, emphasizing the fact that “on the other side were GRU (the largest external information agency, no Russia, no. (Vladimir) Putin ”.

In his article, entitled “The victory of the open society” (apparent reference to the title of the famous Neoliberal philosopher Karl Raimund Popper-“Open Society and its enemies”), Alina Mungiu-Pippidi brings to the fore And the Romanians went out to celebrate in the street, in front of Cișmigiu Park, the victory of the independent candidate.

“Without police cords, with access to the chosen people, with transparency, not populism,” points out the professor of political science.

What does Alina Mungiu-Pippidi say:

  • Have you seen how George Simion was alone on the huge, empty stairs of the Ceausist Palace the People's House, because he had not given the right to the press to the Parliament to approach him, and he had arrived with a handful of loyal and a survey made by Victor Ponta's battle, Mirel Palada, when he received it, This is when you close – this is the society of bodyguards, mercenaries, whistles, teams of death. You are alone in it. That you have closed everyone else.
  • Have you seen how Cișmigiul did not take place, because no one stopped you, how many people came to celebrate the victory next to Nicușor Dan, who could not get there? This is the victory of the open society, against those who made black lists and forecast how they will expel the world in the country and will make an international pole with Brics – with China and Russia. Not with Europe. Without police cords, with access to elected people, with transparency, not populism.
  • Let us thank Romanians who saved the country and Europe, students, pensioners, workers, doctors, artists, teachers, journalists, my entrepreneurs from Rome who took workers, waiters and gardeners to show that the diaspora is not Lumpendiaspora, that they kept their children, the country and Europe.
  • Of course we are a heterogeneous alliance – that on the part of the European course were Basescu, Iohannis, Emil Constantinescu, SRI, SIE, etc. Again I saved the system!
  • But on the other side were Gru, FSB and Putin. The first time we had to mobilize against General Chelaru, the man Simion wanted to make by the Minister of Defense, was in 1998, when several officers with pro-Milosevoc sympathies were organized against the state! I had no choice this time. Not that Simion was necessarily a Russian agent- but the Russians wanted to win. It wasn't worth finding out why.
  • In the open society, everything is possible as the door remains open, as much as no one is expelled, as we act on the basis of transparency, science, universal law, we can correct everything we have not liked, and we have enough to correction, if we associate, if we know what we want, if it is still allowed to have a voice, to have more voices. There is not only a Romania, as there is not only a diaspora, but ours is that of light.
  • And as I have said and done for 30 years, how much open society we can gradually light up, but not if we say that those who approve torture, discrimination, believe that the sun revolves around the earth and that the sovereign is a temporal (and temporary) majority and not the universal law, which the humanity has built in the human rights.

The Central Electoral Bureau (BEC) announced on Monday that it has centralized data from all polling stations, following the presidential election on Sunday.

According to them, the mayor of the Capital, Nicușor Dan, an independent candidate, obtained, in the second round, a number of 6,168,642 votes (53.6%), and his counter -candidate, the gold leader, George Simion – 5,339,053 votes (46.4%).

In a speech held on Sunday night in the center of Bucharest, Nicușor Dan thanked his supporters, stressing that Victoria belongs to those who believed that Romania could change in the correct direction.

“It is your victory, it is the victory of thousands and thousands of people who campaign these days, who thought that Romania can change in the right direction. Never forget the strength you have shown these weeks. Because we will have things to cross. But what you did, as a society, Go ahead.

“Romania starts a new stage tomorrow and needs each of you. He needs specialists to get involved in different public policies, he needs people in civil society, he needs new people in politics. And, as you have proven that you can do this campaign, please continue to activate for Romania,” Nicușor said in his speech.
