Rangers officially announced the separation of Ianis Hagi (26 years old), the Romanian international on Ibrox since 2020.

The Romanian international, quoted by Transfermarkt at 2 million euros, will become free of contract. The agreement with The Gers ended in the summer, and the officials decided not to offer him the extension.

Rangers's official communiqué: “We can confirm today”

In addition to Ianis Hagi, Rangers will also break away from Leon Balogun and Tom Lawrence. The club also announced that several players in the Ibrox group in the form of a loan were sent back to the clubs they belonged to.

“We can confirm today that Ianis Hagi, Leon Balogun and Tom Lawrence will leave the club upon expiration of contracts.

Players borrowed Václav Cerny, Nerasho Kasanwirjo and Rafael Fernandes will return to their mother clubs.

Everyone from Rangers thanks the players who leave for the time spent at the club and wishes them a lot in the future ”, said Rangers on the Facebook page.

Ianis Hagi arrived in Rangers in the form of a loan from Genk in the winter of 2020. At the end of the loan, the Scots purchased it. In season 2023-2024, Ianis Hagi was borrowed by Scots at Alaves. Throughout Ibrox, Hagi played 130 matches, scored 20 goals and offered 28 decisive passes.

The press in Scotland anticipated a separation due to the Romanian salary claims

Rangers News revealed that Ianis Hagi earned 21,000 pounds per week (24,961 euros), which is 1.1 million pounds a year (about 1.3 million euros).

“Our verdict: Hagi can be a popular player among Rangers fans, but the wage requirements and midfielders raise great question marks on a new contract. It seems to be the natural moment for a breakup,” writes the publication.
