How we unite the two Romanians. Sociologist: “Do not believe someone that the war was won. Just a battle”

Over 5.3 million Romanians who gave their vote to the sovereign candidate George Simion feel disappointment after the result of the Sunday elections. He defeated the Pro-European camp, but it is only a stage victory, the sociologist Gelu Sunday draws attention.

The result of the election on Sunday, May 18, 2025, was accepted by both candidates, is already talking about the formation of the future government, perhaps behind the closed doors are already divided the portfolios, but the problem of George Simion's electorate remains. There are over 5.3 million Romanians, with no million less than those who chose the pro-European candidate Nicușor Dan. The “sovereign” voters made the choice handled by the dissatisfaction that many other Romanians, including those who did not show up, have. The question arises whether as a result of the result of the Sunday vote Romania will continue to be divided or if what separated Romanians can be adjusted.

Who tilted the balance

Sociologist Gelu Sunday explains, in a brief analysis for “Adevărul”, on the one hand, who tilted the balance on the day of the vote, and on the other what to do those who will now ensure the country's management to reduce the cleavage in society.

I think we need to understand that what has happened now is the result of a strange, undemocratic, non-European way to make public policies and to ensure the well-being of all citizens. Whether we like or do not like it, the balance was inclined by those who found more things in the European Romania than in sovereign Romania, as it was proposed by the political formation called gold. Respectively by Hungarians, Moldovans, Roma, gay and so on ”, the sociologist explained. The categories of voters mentioned have found more respect in the European Romania than in the sovereign Romania they had so far, added on Sunday. In order to repair the cleavages it is necessary for Europe with all its well -being to be found in as many of us. “It's just a fight won at the moment and at the next work, if we do not do the right thing, many of those who have supported the European course may be changed ”, draws the sociologist.

“Consider all first-class Romanians”

The extremely disappointed electorate after the elections needs to feel represented, as well as those who have chosen something else. The signal to be given from the level of the winners is that they have understood the needs of all the voters and that they treat them equally.

“First of all, we consider all the first-class Romanians, to forget the idea that there are second-hand Romanians. And that the people in the rural environment need everything and completely different factual reality than what they had so far. That they need this Europe to see them in the commune and in the village,” says Gelu on Sunday.

We also need a lot of critical thinking in education, where we can no longer continue endlessly with the emphasis on conformism, points out the sociologist.

Yes, Mr. Simion's electorate at the moment, rightly, feels disappointed. It's a lot, it's a lot. But I think it must be treated as Romanians of the same class as the others who voted against Mr. Simion and that their voice must be heard. I ask for respect. But just like all of us. Of course, they said in a way maybe some of them visible, violent, more aggressive and so on. That sowed. I don't think they need to be antagonized. I don't think you need to forget. I don't think we need to go on – we told you, we are stronger than you! – And I think we have to go on the idea – I heard you, you are ours, let's do what we need together! – ”said the sociologist.

Respect, on the other hand, must materialize, starting with another way of making politics at local level and representing citizens and until the obvious well -being in each locality.

“He has the right to the nursery, he has the right to the good road, he has the right to quality education, he has the right to better employment, he has the right to not be considered inferior, he has the right not to be expelled (no ). He has the right to all this, ”said the sociologist.

“Voted and fear”

The vote for George Simion Na came from a single social category, and the blast is extremely large. The difference made it, says the sociologist, those who felt that European Romania offered them more than sovereign Romania, many voting, it is true.

He voted and fear, yes, it was a vote of fear, I said yesterday. It was a vote of fear, because, I repeat, European Romania offered more for these categories than sovereign Romania. European Romania has offered at least belonging to a culture that respects them more than respected sovereign Romania. I mean, Europe said outside with Hungarians in Europe. In Romania it was said. In Europe, many of the Roma have found much better paid jobs. Gays at the moment have assured, for example, rights in Europe. Including the rights to have a family and to be respected. (…) We must return and consider a much more diverse Romania. A single Romania. There are no more Romanians. There is only one that is diverse, stratified and in which each man, regardless of the ethnic, social, sexual group and so on, belongs, must be found to a greater extent ”, the sociologist said.

The sociologist welcomes the fact that Nicușor Dan spoke in his speech about the need for unity, but emphasizes that in order to really reach this desire he needs the support of the society.

It also depends on each of us. Yes, the fish are wrapped from the head, but they are cleaned from the tail. If each of us will try to make a diverse and solidary Romania around us, then the leadership will have a much easier job. If we leave the whole thing behind the president and the prime minister, we did nothing ”said the sociologist.

Part of the voters who on Sunday have chosen to follow the extremist message will be convinced, in the coming years, that the way would eventually have been unfavorable only if from now things would be done differently, “”More solidarity, more with love for close. ”Gelu Sunday believes.

However, there is also the risk that this extremist current will increase if there are still reasons to feed it. “Not to believe that the war was won. No, only one battle was gained. A battle of a step. It depends a lot on what we do, so that when we are put in a similar situation we have more supporters,” attracted attention on Sunday.

Next for a good part of Romania the well -being has no correspondent in real life, and the Romanians have sought desperate solutions. Against this background, whoever managed to feed the dissatisfaction had to win.

Why did the Romanians from the diaspora voted on Simion voices in greater extent? Because they left swearing Romania. Because they got tired. Because I'm tired. That is why the vote of the diaspora has always been anti-system. Always! When it was PSD, the vote against the PSD. Always! Because the system was to blame because they had to leave home, leave their parents' graves and leave. But now, there was someone who swore with them. Really giving them ghosts. But here we have to look further, rather at the critical thinking side, how we have educated our people. And yes, we must introduce education, critical thinking and all this in the security area ”, said the sociologist.

The next three years, until the future elections, will not be enough, maybe the next 50 years, the sociologist appreciated, because democracy is defended and built daily.

We will always have people who will think that the road of Romania is another. It's normal to be that way. And it's beneficial. But we must have a dialogue. Not a ideas based on ideas, but a dialogue. And we must not have hatred! ”, concluded the sociologist Gelu Sunday.
