Berlin looks anxiously: the right hand in Poland, Trzaskowski on the defensive

The results of the first round of presidential elections in Poland are still in the center of interest of the German press. Commentators pay attention to the contradiction between the pro -European attitudes of Poles and the good results of the candidates of anti -European extreme right.

Commentator of the weekly Die Zeit Alice Bota drew attention to the noteworthy results of Grzegorz Braun, whom she called “anti -Semitic” and a politician “hating the EU”, and Sławomir Mentzen – “Ultralberabean entrepreneur”, advocating the total ban on abortion, even in the case of rape. “Over 20 percent of Poles vote for the extreme right. There are almost 30 percent of voters voting for the PiS right -wing candidate, which can be much more radical than his predecessor at the President's Office (Andrzej Duda – PAP)” – writes the bot.
Poland – a country of declared EU supporters – votes for men like Brauna, which is, admittedly, a MEP, but recently stunned the EU flag in publicand also a mentzen, who is called “unpleasantness” and Nawrocki after rape, whose vision of strong Poland is based on the weakest union – the commentator is surprised.
In her opinion, phenomena occurring in Poland are not something special, but rather in accordance with the European trend – “a radical impatience is becoming widespread towards what is contemptuously called the political establishment.” He is included in him, In the opinion of “Die Zeit”, also Trzaskowski – a policy “actually leftist, but in the election campaign opting for right -wing ideas”.
The strategy of the rulers, consisting in mobilizing voters with fear of right -wing PiS, did not burn this time – writes the bot. In her opinion, responsibility for lack of reforms cannot be dropped only on President Andrzej Duda. In terms of liberalization of abortion law, coalition partners “block themselves” – believes the author of the article.
The commentator predicts that the last stage of the election campaign will be dirty. “These elections have shown that the use of an argument that the other side is bad is not enough to victory. Neither in Germany to limit the influence of AfD or in Poland to prevent the PiS's office to take over the office,” concludes the bot in “Die Zeit”.
“Many voters are pissed off, which is why they voted for right -wing and far -right parties. The result of the second round of elections is unpredictable,” believes Viktoria Grossmann from “Sueddeutsche Zeitung”.
The journalist emphasized that two far -right candidates won over 20 percent. support, and nearly 30 percent Voters voted for Nawrocki, which is “worthy of reflection”, taking into account the enthusiastic attitude of Poles to Europe.
In the opinion of Grossmann, many Poles are upset by the fact that for 20 years they have only a choice between PiS and PO, and specifically between Jarosław Kaczyński and Donald Tusk. “Between two older men who act in a popularist way, there is not only an ideological border between the state of law and a single -party state, but there is also a personal dispute between them,” explains Grossmann.
In her opinion, Duopol's opponents may not go to the election on June 1. “For Trzaskowski and for the whole government of Tusk, which enjoys the EU respect and works constructively, lower than in the first round, the attendance may be beneficial,” concludes Grossmann.
The right -wing camp won over 50 percent votes – writes Gabriele Lesser from “Tageszeitung”. This means that Trzaskowski's chances of victory in the second round seem to be, in her opinion, almost completely unrealistic. The commentator drew attention to the “dramatically weak” results of party candidates, which create Tusk's government coalition.
According to the author of many politicians, PO provided for this situation. That is why a few months ago on May 25 a “patriot march” was announced, which is to mobilize voters. Before the election in 2023, such a march proved to be a success. Trzaskowski's rival, Karol Nawrocki, announced a competitive march – noted Lesser.
Hubert Wetzel from “Sueddeutsche Zeitung” writes that in Brussels election results in Poland and Romania, and above all the fact that right -wing populists lost, “with relief” was adopted.
In both countries, candidates differing in attitude towards US President Donald Trump and the European Union fought for victory. “In both cases, the candidates who praised Trump and criticized the EU lost,” emphasized Wetzel.
Nawrocki's victory in the second round would mean the possibility of further sabotage by the President of the pro -European course of Prime Minister Donald Tusk – warned the commentator.
