Nicușor Dan obtained over 6.2 million votes in the May 18 poll, thus becoming the first independent candidate to obtain the supreme function in the state.

The final results of the presidential elections show, according to the AEP, that Nicușor Dan won the short with an advance of 829,589 votes compared to his counter -candidate George Simion, the leader of the Alliance for Union of Romanians (gold).

Nicușor Dan's electoral race is unprecedented in the history of our democracy. He is the first president of Romania chosen at the first term without being affiliated with a party.

In the first round of presidential elections, he obtained 20% less than George Simion. After two weeks, in the second round, Nicușor won the race and exceeded Simion by 7.2%.

At the Sunday vote, one of the biggest presence in the last 25 years was registered. 64.72% of Romanians voted, representing almost 11.64 million votes, including over 1.6 million votes abroad, an absolute record for the ballot boxes for Romanians in the diaspora.

The participation in the vote in the second round of the 2014 presidential elections was 64.11%, representing 11.71 million citizens. Only at the first round of the presidential elections in 2000 was a higher vote presence: 65.31% ie 11.55 million citizens.
