Poles in Ukraine without voting

Although the exact number of Polish citizens with electoral law currently in Ukraine is not known, it is estimated that there may be about 1.4 thousand – Wroński informed.
After the start of the full -glass invasion of Russia in Ukraine in February 2022, many countries gave up organizing polling stations there. Despite this, some countries, such as France or the US, have enabled their citizens to vote from abroad via a post or proxy. Such solutions allowed, among others French vote in the parliamentary elections in 2024, and the Americans – in presidential in 2020.

Without circuits in Ukraine
In connection with the elections scheduled for May 18, the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs decided not to create any voting circuits in Ukraine. This is a continuation of earlier decisions – it was similar in the case of parliamentary elections in October 2023 and upcoming Eurovats in June 2024.
“If elections are held and, for example, an air attack, it is an indication of going to the shelter, what to do with the commission and how, in connection with such events, do not extend its action?” – Wroński noticed, adding that Poland is following the practices used by other countries.

Romania worked differently
However, Romania did differently – she enabled voting in the presidential election in Ukraine. According to Radio France International, Romanians can vote in three polling stations: the embassy in Kiev as well as in Czerniowce and Sołotwin in Zakarpacie. To minimize the risk of abuse, the procedure for closing the premises was introduced in the event of a raid and its re -opening after the threat ceased.
According to the data cited by the European Center for Minority Issues, in the 2001 universal list it was shown that about 151,000 Romanians lived in Ukraine, mainly in the Czerniowiecki, Zakarpackie and Odni districts.
Poles who want to vote in Sunday elections must go to Poland. The last day to obtain a certificate entitling to vote in any circuit in the country is Thursday.
“In Poland, such a certificate is issued by any commune office, while in Ukraine it can only be issued by a consul,” a spokesman for the National Electoral Office, Marcin Chmielnicki, reminded PAP.
