For several months I tried to enter the virtual world of the compatriots who are called “patriots”, “sovereigns” and “true Romanians”. I entered the Telegram groups, I watched LIVEs on Tiktok, a kind of debate between these people, organized every night.
I forced the algorithms to reach and to stay in their midst, I listened to them and tried to understand. I discovered discussions, but also a lot of hatred, which, to be kept alive, is fed daily through messages that urge revolt or even violence.
This movement meant to bring the big change in Romania is very well organized and has been created over time, having its roots before 2020. Signals related to the birth of a huge so-called sovereign force existed, but were ignored by civil society, politicians, authorities, press. Although there were exceptions, journalists who followed the subject and offered it to people.
The idea described some time before
I remember the discussion with an integrity warning, sometime in 2019. He said then that an ideological movement, as a revolution, is in preparation. I had the firm belief that everything will remain at the theoretical level, but what he told me then was just. I remembered these things in November 2024, after winning Călin Georgescu the first round of the presidential elections.
The warnings stated that the movement has support in politics, the world of interrogators and military structures (I saw the armed group of Horațiu Potra), that it would monopoly great themes, with strident nationalist labels, that hyper-emotional speeches meant to inhibit the reason of the masses.
And he also said something essential, that a figure will be used that “should not necessarily participate in a hybrid war, being sufficient to climb it in a position of great influence, to be allowed to destroy (democracy) in which you could not think.”
Later, the country project Călin Georgescu appeared. Just so, the “Călin Georgescu country project”.

The first telegram channel created especially for the preparation of Călin Georgescu's campaign was established on November 13, 2021 and is called “Calin Georgescu – food, water, energy”. Subsequently, numerous other groups were set up, gathering thousands of supporters over time.
The administrators of the group transmitted clear indications related to how they promote the “Călin Georgescu country project” on different digital platforms, having subsidiaries and coordinators in all counties.
Each county had a coordinator. In parallel, different communities were created, who gathered many followers especially in the rural area, through the Association “Ancestral Earth”, founded in October 2021 under the name of Călin Georgescu.
It was meant to contribute to the “great rebirth”, by dividing “ancestral seeds”, being “a living and regenerating living organism brings an important contribution to the development of sovereign, patriotic, helping, working together, in clac.”
From 2021 until the moment of the presidential campaign, numerous conferences and meetings were organized with Călin Georgescu, created hundreds of propaganda messages and videos, proposing “a new social, economic and political, innovative and unifier: sovereignism – Distributism”. Specifically, an anticapitalist doctrine, based on self -consumption.
Not fast, but “slowly, but sure!“
The coordinators of the project frequently transmitted to the members that it is “imperative that the term distributism be popular”, in order to reach the “collective mind”. “When the country project of Mr. Călin Georgescu will be adopted and proposed by a political vehicle, people have a minimum of knowledge about the benefits of distributism, about the ability of this economic concept to straighten things in all aspects of the political, social, economic and educational sphere,” was the message of the coordinators.
As they said, they acted on the principle “Sero sed serio – slowly, but sure!”.
Everything was thoroughly prepared, including the message Georgescu had to convey. “Mr. Călin Georgescu needs the support of most existing political parties, the support of the services that must be made to understand that we are going through a global change from which we may not come out too comfortable.
In an elegant manner, Mr. Călin Georgescu must present the real situation that is expected worldwide, namely that the population will lose the right of property and production, and the citizens will be engaged in wars without their will.
Mr. Călin Georgescu must remain an open book for any party or citizens who want to get out of this position of non -productive servants towards the West. And for this there must be permanent dialogue between Mr. Georgescu's campaign team and the big political parties, including the secret services that practically coordinate them ”.
As these project coordinators stated, Călin Georgescu was not present on any social network, even though much of the propaganda action took place online.
“Do not focus on the news TVs in Romania. The peak that these televisions are doing is somewhere to 8 shares, that is about 300 thousand spectators, and the average of a television is somewhere at 2-3 shares, that is up to 100 thousand spectators. The online is the basis,” said the organizers before the elections.
The “ancestral seeds” turned into the seeds of hatred
After canceling the elections in December 2024 and, later rejecting the candidacy of Călin Georgescu by the Constitutional Court, the virulent messages appeared, full of hatred, not only towards the politicians in power, but even towards their voters, towards those who do not like the “sovereign” movement.
Even Călin Georgescu tries to diabolize those who want “bananas, jeans and expensive holidays abroad”, from the villa where they live, that they are pseudoelites who “will not equal us”.
Social networks are full with threats, video content and extremely violent written. Many of them are reported and closed. But as he recognized, Tiktok, one of Georgescu's supporters, now supporter George Simion, “they closed my main account, but I opened two more.”
The threatening messages have become commonplace, distributed especially on Tiktok, such as “Simion cleans you from A to Z, you and your children, and we will confiscate everything.” The lives in each night are full of threats with violence towards those who “do not want change” and do not vote on Simion.

The most serious are the explicit threats with death, such as those of the Neo-Nazi group “Unity 731”.
Presson journalists Răzvan Filip and Renata Mogîldea, who published a series of investigations on the neo-Nazi group were repeatedly threatened, with death by the group members, reports Antena 3 CNN.
“We have to catch them in a withdrawn place,” writes in a message on Telegram, where threats were published to interim president Ilie Bolojan.
Not surprisingly, many influences and supporters of the so-called “sovereign” groups are Putin's declared admirers. Some even propose communication strategies to put panic in the camp of “globalists”. Such a strategy I found on the telegram channel called “political trends”. “I propose the actions in Medvedev style. I tried and it works. Well, starting from the premise that we are not Medvedev, we must be careful not to reach the police, but as an idea,” wrote in April the one who created the channel.
In short, he proposed the more than 1,000 members to transmit the “USR-Iști” that the information that Simion wants to bring, an economic model as in North Korea, that Romania will be removed from the EU and NATO is real.
“They say they will take care of Russia military? Tell them that that's why you have posted on Facebook in the last 3 years, that you have prepared yourself and that you are sorry for them, but you will not be able to help them, that the Russians are only friends with loyal people.” “I guarantee that after a few of these, no one will approach/answer!”, Wrote the holder of the Telegram channel.
