The second largest hydroelectric power station in Russia is one of the ten largest in the world. It is depicted on a paper “ten” model of 1997. The hydroelectric power station is equipped with the only shipbuilder in Russia. Its dam has a length of 1,072 m and a width of 124 m. The hydroelectric power station includes 12 hydraulic units with a capacity of 500 MW each. Since the commissioning of the station, the station has developed more than 1 trillion KWCh of electricity, which on average amounted to 18.48 billion kWh per year.
Now the hydraulic unit is able to issue a maximum power of 500 MW and less depend on the pressure and the water level in the reservoir. This will increase the average annual power generation of hydroelectric power plants to 5 %, the efficiency of the hydraulic unit will increase by 20 %. Reconstruction was carried out as part of the New Energy program.
“In 2024, after 55 years of work, the hydraulic unit was stopped to replace the working wheel. This is a unique development of Russian engineers. Due to the improved configuration of the blades, a utility coefficient increased in the hydraulic unit. This will increase the production of electricity and issue maximum power in a wider pressure range. The new wheel differs not only in shape, but also by the material of execution – now it is stainless steel, more resistant to cavitation exposure, ”said the director of the Krasnoyarsk hydroelectric power station Stanislav Legekens.
The Minister of Industry and Trade of the Krasnoyarsk Territory Maxim Ermakov noted that the update of the hydroelectric power station is of particular importance to the region.
“This is not just a technical update – this is a continuation of a glorious story, the connection of generations and a confident step into the future. Modern technologies used in the reconstruction of the Krasnoyarsk hydroelectric power station increased the efficiency and reliability of the unit, which will further make a significant contribution to the development of Siberia. This project is the result of the coordinated work of specialists, a demonstration of a high level of domestic engineering thought and confirmation that the Krasnoyarsk Territory remains the supporting region of the Russian electric power industry, ”the minister said.
Recall that the work on the modernization of the Hydroelectric Power Station and the Yenisei cascades began as part of the implementation of the New Energy program in 2017. The volume of investment in modernization has already exceeded 20 billion rubles. At the Krasnoyarsk hydroelectric power station, 7 hydraulic units out of 12 are reconstructed. The rest should be updated until 2031. This will increase the production volume of renewable pure electricity to 5% at the current level of water, reduce the load on coal thermal power plants and reduce the carbon trace. This will favorably affect the ecology of Krasnoyarsk.
