The Kremlin said on Saturday night that he will “reflect” at the proposal to cease fire in Ukraine submitted by the Western allies of Kiev, but warned that it is “useless” to “put pressure on Moscow.”
In an interview with the American television station CNN, Dmitri Peskov, Vladimir Putin's spokesman, said: “We must reflect on this. This is a new evolution. We have our own position,” reports news.ro.
Beyond this brief seemingly positive statement, Peskov resumed his critical and ironic discourse against Kiev and his Western allies, but taking care to slip appreciation for Donald Trump's mediation efforts.
The EU increases the pressure on Russia and threatens it with massive sanctions if it does not accept the 30-day armistice / what condition Moscow / Zelenski puts and the four European leaders who went to Kiev called Trump
He reminded that Vladimir Putin declared a ceasefire for three days a few days ago. “Have you heard of any reaction from Kiev? No, nor did we hear. Did you hear any criticism of Kiev because he was not able to give an answer or did not want to answer? No,” the Kremlin spokesman insisted. “If Kiev wants a cessation of fire, why not a cessation of fire for at least three days?” He continued.
Asked if the proposal of European leaders for a 30-day fire cease since May 12 “does not cram Russia in a corner,” Peskov has replied negatively.
“No, I don't believe,” said the Kremlin spokesman, who showed that Russia's modern history shows that it is “very resistant to any pressure.”
On the other hand, he accused that Europe is in an attitude of “open confrontation” with Moscow. “We feel it, we know it, but we are quite used to it,” he added.
Peskov argues that Russia is “open for dialogue and attempts to reach a regulation” for the Ukraine conflict and “appreciates the mediation epers” of President Donald Trump. “We are very grateful to him,” added the Kremlin spokesman.
“But trying to put pressure on us is completely useless,” he warned.
