Leon XIV calls for peace during the prayer of Regina Coeli

– “The brothers and sisters, the terrible tragedy of World War II ended 80 years ago, on May 8, after it caused 60 million victims,” said the Pope. Referring to the words of his predecessor, Pope Francis, describing contemporary conflicts as “Third World War in pieces”, Leon XIV repeated the appeal: “Never again war”.
The Pope referred to Ukraine and Gaza
In a speech, the Pope referred to the dramatic situation in Ukraine and in the Gaza Strip. “I wear the suffering of the beloved Ukrainian nation in my heart,” he said, calling for “authentic, fair and lasting peace.” He also appealed to release all prisoners and return of Ukrainian children to his families.
In relation to the Gaza Strip, the Pope emphasized: – “He saddens me deeply what is happening in the Gaza Strip. Let the weapon suspension immediately.” He asked the international community to urgently provide humanitarian aid for the “exhausted population” and the release of all hostages.
