The German government will no longer make public details of military aid for Ukraine, Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced on Saturday, during a visit to Kiev, writes Reuters and Agerpres.

Familiar sources with this issue had stated that public information about German weapons deliveries would be limited to achieve “strategic ambiguity” and to prevent Russia from achieving any strategic advantage.

“Under my leadership, the debate on deliveries of weapons, caliber, weapon systems and so on will be removed from the public's eyes,” Merz told RTL and NTV.

After the beginning of the Russian invasion in Ukraine in February 2022, the Berlin government initially sporadically reported on the military aid provided to Kiev. Subsequently, at the pressure of the parliamentarians and the press, the German Executive began to publish an updated list of weapons systems provided.

Friedrich Merz, who took over his term on Tuesday, said that his country's commitment to supporting Ukraine is unchanged. “Germany will continue to expand its financial support. I count you to do the same with us,” Merz said, addressing the other European leaders in Kiev on Saturday.

French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, on Saturday in Kiev for a summit of the “Volunteer Coalition”, Moscow proposed a cessation of a complete and unconditional fire for 30 days.

The EU and the US have already imposed several packages of sanctions against Russia, after it launched in February 2022 an illegal, unjustified and unprovocated military aggression against Ukraine.
