Russia also presented an alternative proposal for US President's administration Donald Trump. It would consist of buying American companies in the Nord Stream gas pipeline, pipelines running through Ukraine or even in Gazprom itself.
“This is to be a binding transaction: American help for Gazprom in recovering the position on the most profitable gas market in exchange for Russian concessions in a negotiated peace agreement. The Russian regime convinces the White House that such a plan will be favorable for the United States, because the US will be able to control how much gas Russia pumps into the EU“ – say the sources of the agency.
However, the agency draws attention to a number of legal and technical problems that appear in the case of such a scenario. “Of the four branches of Nord Stream, only one remains after the last outbreak of its outbreak, and Nord Stream 2 never acted and was also damaged. He did not receive permission from the German government or the Union to start operations” – reminded Reuters a representative of the German Ministry of Economy and Energy.

In addition, as reported by the agency, the Kremlin is also ready to modify contracts constituting gauze to EU countries. “To return to the German market, Gazprom is ready to move away from the practice of long -term contracts, which have been concluded for decades: it considers the possibility of concluding short, two -year contracts with a large price discount” – REUTERS sources say.
As Rzeczpospolita reminds, before the war Russian gas occupied 40 percent. European market, and in the peak period of Gazprom exports reached 200 billion m3 per year. Since then, the volume of exports has decreased nearly seven times: in the years 2023–2024 it was 28 billion m3 and 32 billion m3, respectively, reaching the lowest level from the second half of the 1970s.
Currently, only two countries in the European Union are still buying gas from Gazprom: Hungary and Slovakia. Three other countries – France, Spain and Belgium – import Russian LNG. The total share of Russian gas in the EU is currently 19 percent.
