The high school police, southeast of Turkey, burned 20 tons of cannabis confiscated by the authorities throughout 2024, to send a “powerful message” to drug dealers. However, the operation became a fiasco, causing the hallucinations for several days, reports Türkiye Today, quoted by News.ro.

The incident took place on April 18. The police put the drugs on a viran ground, so as to form the name “high school”, then set them on fire. Their operation was previously authorized.

After a few hours, the authorities realized the disaster created.

A column of smoke rose in the air, only a few tens of meters of homes, and the neighbors and police inhaled the smoke, after which they were encompassed by dizziness and bad states.

Many of the 25,000 inhabitants of the city complained that they were drugged and had hallucinations.

“We could not open our windows for days. Our children got sick and we did a go to the hospital,” said one of the inhabitants.

For at least five days, the inhabitants of the city stood with the windows closed and were forced to limit their time outside the house.

“Just as cigarette smoke harms passive fighters, the smoke from burning these drugs has caused serious inconvenience,” said the president of an association fighting addictions in Turkey, Green Star, Yahya Oger.

“If the operations carried out by the security forces (…) are taking place and give a significant blow to the production and the sellers on the street, the burning of the cannabis in the city center is not professional,” he denounced.
