Five young people died at a party for celebrating a birthday in the Irkuţk region in Russia, an event that degenerated into violence against excessive alcohol consumption, the DPA Russian press agency said on Thursday.
“The deceased persons were between 13 and 17 years old and among them is a girl,” said a spokesman for the Regional Investigation Committee.
According to the preliminary information of the criminal investigation, a young man under the influence of alcoholic beverages attacked other participants in the party with a knife, killing four of them and hurting four others. Subsequently, he set fire to a garden shack, an action that caused him death, Agerpres reports.
The wounded were transported to a hospital in Irkuţk, and the condition of one of them is critical.
Prosecutors have launched an investigation for homicide. In the region, three days of mourning were decreed.
