Gabriela Firea takes into account the variant of the candidacy for the City Hall, if Nicușor Dan will be elected president. “We are waiting for the Romanians' decision”

MEP Gabriela Firea, the former mayor of the Capital in 2016-2020, said that he is considering applying for the town hall if Nicușor Dan was elected president.

He stated for the publication of the investigation of the day that he is considering the variant of registration in a future electoral race, if the current mayor will reach Cotroceni.

“We all wait with great interest the result of the elections and the decision of the Romanians on May 18. Whatever the result, it must be respected by everyone. If the Romanians choose in the sense indicated by you, and the City Hall will remain without a leader, I take into account the variant of registration in a future electoral race“, Said Gabriela Firea.

The former mayor of the capital claims that he has achieved an “honorable” result in the local elections of 2024 and that he will take this step out of respect for the Bucharest people who gave him the vote. Gabriela Firea was defeated by Nicușor Dan at the elections for the Bucharest City Hall in 2020 and 2024.

“I will take this step out of respect for the 22% of Bucharest people who believed in the projects that I and the social democratic team have proposed, despite the lies and manipulations of the last years and an unprecedented denigration campaign to which I have been subjected. We obtained an honorable result in last year's local elections, considering how late I entered the electoral competition and how many obstacles were along, including the lack of any political alliance for the PMB, as negotiated for the sector town halls.”, Said Firea, according to the quoted source.

Nicușor Dan won in June 2024 a new term at the Capital City Hall, obtaining 48.3% of the votes, while Gabriela Firea ranked second, obtaining 22.34%.
