US President Donald Trump on Thursday once again used offensive words to Jerome Powell, the head of the American Federal Reserve (FED). This time he called him an “idiot” after the Fed unanimously decided to leave interest rates unchanged.

“Jerome Powell is an idiot who has no idea about anything,” wrote the US president on his Truth Social portal. “It's like talking to the wall,” he repeated during a press conference in the oval office.

“He is still late, but it doesn't matter much because our country is strong,” Trump emphasized.

The US Federal Reserve decided on Thursday to extend the status quo in the interest rates. In the justification, she stated that she was unable to predict in what direction the American economy will be going in the face of duties imposed by Donald Trump.

Last month, Trump wrote in his social networking site that Powell should immediately lower interest rates, and called him a “great loser”. He warned that if Powell did not lower interest rates, the economy would slow down significantly.

Earlier, the US President said that Powell could not wait, fueling speculation about the possible dismissal of the president of the Central Bank. Trump also argued that if he wanted to, Powell, whose term ends next year, would leave his position. (PAP)
