Forget about caustic gels and expensive sprays. In restaurants, greasy pans and baking sheets are washed with a simple mixture of three ingredients: baking soda, salt and boiling water. And it works even on old carbon deposits.
How to prepare and use?
1. Place the following on the bottom of the dirty dish:
- 2 tbsp. l. baking soda,
- 1 tbsp. l. salt.
2. Pour a glass of boiling water (or very hot water).
3. Leave for 5-10 minutes.
→ If there is a lot of soot, place it on the stove and bring to a light boil right in the frying pan.
4. Use a stiff brush or sponge to remove grease and carbon deposits without effort.
Why does this work?
- Baking soda softens grease deposits by reacting with acids and oil residues.
- Salt acts as a soft abrasive – it gently removes loose carbon deposits without scratching the metal.
- Boiling water speeds up the process and penetrates micropores, washing away dirt.
This mixture is often more effective than store-bought products, but without surfactants, fragrances or chemical odors.
Where else can I use it?
The method is suitable for:
- cast iron and stainless steel frying pans,
- nastier,
- pans,
- metal sinks.
Important: for Teflon and other delicate coatings, use a soft sponge and reduce the exposure time. Cast iron and stainless steel, on the contrary, even withstand boiling.
