JD Vice President JD Vance said on Thursday that Russia has requested the territories that he has not yet conquered, in the peace negotiations, a sign that the White House administration continues to signal his dissatisfaction with Moscow in his efforts to end the war, writes Politico.
“Russia can not expect to receive a territory that it has not even conquered,” JD Vance said in an interview with Fox News.
“And this is one of the things they have included in that initial peace plan,” he added on Thursday.
In the interview, Vance resumed the statements he made on Wednesday, in a discussion under the aegis of the Munich Conference. Russia “asks too much,” he said at that meeting, and “he will probably have to make concessions.”
But Vance told MacCallum at the same time that Moscow's very high demands make sense, because Russia believes that it wins the war.
“I knew that the first request of the Russians would be exaggerated, I knew they would ask for more than it was reasonable to give, so negotiations are often functioning,” he said. “I am not disturbed by this. What would bother me if we came to the conclusion that the Russians do not engage in negotiations with good faith,” he said.
Trump is launching a harsh warning to Russia and Ukraine immediately after the phone talk with Zelenski. “They will be held accountable”
In this case, said Vance, the White House would give up its role as a mediator.
After initially concentrated the anger of the predominantly white house on Ukraine in his efforts to negotiate a peace agreement, President Donald Trump has reported frustration of Russia's lack of availability to reach a compromise in recent weeks.
Trump launched a call on his social network on Thursday night, Social Truth, at “an unconditional cessation of 30 -day fire” during the Ukraine war, AFP reports.
Both Russia and Ukraine “will be held accountable”, and “if the cessation of fire is not respected, the United States and their partners will impose new sanctions,” threatened the leader from the White House, shortly after a telephone conversation with his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodimir Zelenski.
The US president added that a cessation of fire should lead to a “sustainable peace” and promised that he will “remain employed” in the discussions for this purpose.
