Russian schoolchildren of the 5-9th grade from 2025/2026 of the academic year will begin to engage in new unified history textbooks on the editorship of the Assistant President of the Russian Federation, the chairman of the Russian Military Historical Society (RVIO) by Vladimir Medinsky, more than 13 million copies of books were received in the country's educational institutions, RIA Novosti said the press service of the Education Group of Companies.
The authors of the textbooks were also the rector of Mgima Anatoly Torkunov and the supervisor of the Institute of General History of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Chubaryan.
“In the new 2025/2026 academic year, all schools in the country are transferred to compulsory training in state history textbooks in grades 5-7, while a full line has been developed from grades 5 to 9,” the report said.
It is clarified that state history textbooks for grades 5-7 entered schools in all regions of the country, and by readiness educational organizations can switch to training in new textbooks and in grades 8-9.
“In total, by the beginning of the school year, more than 13 million copies of state history textbooks for 5-9 grades were shipped to the educational organizations of the Russian Federation,” the publishing house noted.
According to the head of the Institute of Contents and Teaching Methods of Lednev Maxim Kostenko, the main difference between new history textbooks is their compliance with the historical and cultural standard, the text is written in a living language, the material is fascinating.
“The sections on the most pressing issues of the present are included: the entry of new subjects in the Russian Federation, international relations, the expansion of NATO. The methodological apparatus of the textbook contains various types of tasks designed for effective preparation for various forms of certification, ”said RIA Novosti Kostenko, adding that the edition in solid binding will provide the possibility of longer use.
