The United States is negotiating with Moscow on the return of Russian gas supply to Europe – Reuters

According to the publication, the negotiations discuss the possibility of acquiring a share in the North Stream gas pipeline, connecting Russia and Germany, or in a gas pipeline crossing Ukraine, or in Gazprom itself.

The mechanism of supplying Russian gas to the EU may look like this: American firms become intermediaries, buying Gazprom gas and supplying it to Europe, including Germany. Two sources of publication said that diplomatic negotiations with the participation of potential American investors also considered the idea that an American buyer would buy Russian gas, and then export it to Europe to mitigate the European political opposition to resume Russian gas supplies.

Sources close to bilateral negotiations said that the restoration of the role of Moscow in the gas market of the European Union could help to fix a peace agreement with the illegitimate president of the aggressor country of Russia Vladimir Putin. According to two diplomatic sources and a source in the White House, the United States will benefit Washington, as it will provide him with the opportunity to see and, possibly, control the volume of Russian gas returned to Europe.

According to two of the eight sources, the US special representative Steve Vitkoff and the investment special representative of Putin Kirill Dmitriev held negotiations on gas in the framework of peace negotiations in Ukraine.
The chairman of the commission Ursula von der Lyaine expressed his disagreement with the return to Russian supplies of energy. “Some still say that we should again open the crane of Russian gas and oil. This would be a mistake of a historical scale, and we will never accept this,” she said at a session of the European parliament on May 7. According to her, Russia has repeatedly proved that it is not a reliable supplier.
