North Korea has launched what several short-range ballistic missiles seem to be on the East Coast of the country, said the South Korean army on Thursday, in an action that could be a performance test for export projects, Reuters reports.

The missiles were launched from Wonsan, a city on the East Coast of North Korea, around 8:10 in the morning (23:10 GMT on Wednesday) and flew up to 800 km before falling into the sea, the Seoul army said in a statement.

South Korea communicates closely with the US and Japan to share information about launch, information shows.

The Spokesman of the General Staff of South Korea, Lee Sung-Jun, refused to comment on the exact number of detected missiles or their characteristics, but said in a press conference that the launch could have tested the performance and stability of the missiles for export.

The Japanese government also said that it has detected the launch of a ballistic missile by North Korea, which would have flew on an irregular trajectory.

North Korea's ballistic missile program, which has nuclear weapons, is forbidden by the resolutions of the Security Council of the United Nations, but in recent years the Phenian has continued to develop missiles of all types.

In March, North Korea launched several ballistic missiles, accusing the South Korean and American army of carrying out military exercises that they consider dangerous and provocative.

North Korea has also exported short -range ballistic missiles, among other weapons, to Russia to be used in the Ukraine war, according to American and Allied intelligence, as well as independent researchers.

The Phenian and Moscow denied the trade with weapons, although North Korean troops were dislocated to fight on the front of the Russian Kursk region, where Vladimir Putin's army pushed Ukrainian forces.
