The regulations predict that after choosing a new pope will be asked if he is taking the choice and what name he will take. He will also receive the first tribute from cardinals.

Then the new bishop of Rome will go to the so -called A room of tears, i.e. the sacristy of the Sistine Chapel, where he will apply a white cassock and a whole papal outfit for the first time.

He announced the selection of the pope on Thursday after 19 from the balcony of the Basilica of Saint Peter, Cardinal Protodiakon Dominique Mamberti. The French Cardinal Protodiakon gave the following formula in Latin: “Annuntio vobis Gaudium Magnum: Habemus Papam” (“I tell you great joy, we have a pope”). Then he mentioned the name and surname of the cardinal and the name he adopted.

Cardinal Robert Prevost from the USA became the new pope and took the name of Leon XIV. Leon XIV is 69 years old and a long experience in Peru. Recently, he was a prefect of dicasteries for bishops. He was considered one of the papabili.

The conclave with the participation of 133 electors from 71 countries lasted a day.
