The man's parents, Michael and Susan, rejected federal officials' account in an interview with The Associated Press, calling the “lies” told about their son “disgusting and reprehensible.” In a statement, they said it was clear their son was not holding the gun in the moments before the shooting. He had his phone in one hand, they said, and his other arm raised above his head, “while he was trying to protect a woman who had just been pushed by ICE, all while being pepper-sprayed.”
Video published by NBC News shows Pretty checking on a man who was pushed by federal officers. A scuffle ensued and Pretty was knocked to the ground and surrounded by agents.
