If the commercial discussions between the EU and Washington will fail, Brussels considers the introduction of customs tariffs for the aircraft produced by the US manufacturer Boeing, writes Financial Times, quoted by Agerpres.

The European Commission, which supervises the EU's commercial policy, will include civilian aircraft on a list of American imports with an annual value of 100 billion euros, which will be targeted by EU reprisals, several sources have told FT.

Measures that will have to be approved by most Member States would only come into effect if the EU does not make sufficient progress in US discussions to reduce US tariffs.

The European Trade Commissioner, Maros Sefcovic, said on Tuesday that the community block is not pressed to accept an incorrect agreement with the US.

The European Union is already targeted by 25% rates imposed by the US for imports of steel, aluminum and cars. It is also subjected to 10% rates to almost all other goods, including aircraft, which could increase to 20%, after, on July 8, the 90 -day respite announced by the US President Donald Trump.

European air carriers ordered hundreds of Boeing aircraft, relying on the growth of the air transport market, but the possible rates would lead to a significant increase in those aircraft, which are paid at the time of entry.
