As reported by the Daily NK portal, the case concerns a 50-year-old man who died of a heart attack on April 13. His family, despite his fresh mourning, was forced to speed up the funeral and end it the day before the date to avoid disturbing state celebrations, and to avoid the risk of accusations of lack of loyalty to the regime.

Kim Ir Sen's birthday became an official state holiday in 1962. A decade later he was given the importance of the most important celebration in North Korea. The authorities organize numerous events and require citizens universal participation in celebrations, impose special social discipline. Any signs of mourning are not allowed at that time.
“The sense of loss after the death of a loved one is huge, and the inability to organize the right funeral according to tradition only intensifies the pain,” said the source of Daily NK.
It was also noted that the need to participate in state celebrations at that time was an additional blow for the family. As the next source explained, in North Korea, expressing personal regret on the day such as April 15 is treated as a lack of respect for Kim Ir Sena.
