The relocation of the US troops from Jasionka is a planned decision, not an expression of the weakening of the presence of Americans in Poland – told PAP adviser to the head of the Ministry of National Defense, General Mieczysław Bieniek. He estimated that relocation in no way means a change in US priorities regarding the presence of Central and Eastern Europe.

The US Army command in Europe and Africa (USareur-AF) has announced a relocation of some staff and equipment from the airport in Jasionka to other bases in Poland. As noted in an official announcement, this is a planned step aimed at optimizing activities and increasing the operational efficiency of the American armed forces in the region. This decision caused speculation of a possible reduction in the US military presence in Poland.
“All hysterical voices in this matter are unauthorized. The Americans do not withdraw from Europe, it is first. Secondly, the base in Jasionka is reduced today, but this does not mean that the Americans are withdrawing from Poland,” Gen. Bieniek told PAP.
He assessed the relocation, long earlier, planned by the American army, does not indicate any change in US priorities towards military support of Ukraine and the presence in Central and Eastern Europe.
He also reminded that relocation only concerns the transfer of strength to other existing military bases in Poland. “Remember that these American forces are retreating to bases in Poland, and we have many such bases in our country,” he noted. At the same time, he assured that the role of the airport in Jasionka remains significant. “On the other hand, Jasionka continues to be a hub and is logistically secured and there she meets her conditions when it comes to supplying Ukraine with equipment,” he explained.
Gen. Bieniek appealed to remain calm. “There is no point in creating panic. Americans stay in Polish bases, in Europe. Remember that they have too many interests when it comes to geopolitics, strategy, and economic interests. Americans have always been and will be in Europe,” he said.
Expert: Relocation of Jasionka troops does not mean reducing the presence of the USA in Poland
The decision to transfer the US troops from Jasionka does not mean to reduce their presence in Poland – the president of the Kazimierz Pułaski Zbigniew Pisarski. He pointed out, among others At the economic aspect, emphasizing that Poland is a generous host for US soldiers.
The US Army Command in Europe and Africa (USareur-AF) announced a relocation of some of the staff and equipment from the airport in the Jasionka in Podrzeszów to other bases in Poland. As noted in an official announcement, this is a planned step aimed at optimizing activities and increasing the operational efficiency of the American armed forces in the region. This decision caused speculation of a possible reduction in the US military presence in Poland.
“The relocation of US soldiers from Jasionka was planned earlier and it was simply implemented at the moment – there is nothing extraordinary about it. And in addition it can be said that there was even a strengthened the presence of allied troops in Poland, because not only that these American troops remain in our country, we also accept Norwegian soldiers,” said Pisarski.
In his opinion, we are not dealing with a reduction in the military presence of the USA, but rather with its new configuration. “Therefore, it can be said that the presence of allied troops on the eastern flank in Poland simply increases. And the fact that their structure is changing means that the accents in transatlantic relations are changing,” he explained.
According to Pisarski, it is European allies – in the face of political changes in the US – they are increasingly involved in building common security. “It is obvious that they also want to show their activity and support for the security of all of Europe,” he noted.
The president of the Pułaski Foundation also emphasized the economic aspect. “Poland is a very generous host for American soldiers and virtually all costs, including pay for American soldiers who are stationed in Poland, are covered by a Polish taxpayer. For this reason, the possible withdrawal of US troops would mean not only an increase in costs for Washington, but also a decrease in the US allied credibility towards Europe,” said Pisarski.
The expert also drew attention to the propaganda context of relationships with Russia. “I could say more about it, but I don't think I don't think because I'm in Washington and freshly after talking in the US Department of State and I know that this dissonance in communication is not accidental. Still, I can assure you that a lot of disinformation introduces intentionally to public debate the Russians who describe non -existent reality” – he noted.
“It can be clearly seen that Russia's actions are aimed, among others, to diminish the credibility of Americans in relation to their allies from Europe,” he added. That is why-as the expert summed up-although the relocation of the army from Jasionka may give birth to speculation, in fact it does not threaten the current allied presence of NATO in Poland and Central and Eastern Europe.
