The Trump administration announced on Friday that it revokes Romania's receipt in the US program that allows visa -free travel, less than four months after the announcement will be added, writes Reuters.
The resignation administration of the then president, Joe Biden, announced on January 9 that Romania admits in the program, stating that he has met strict security requirements, including the conclusion of partnerships with the American law enforcement authorities for the exchange of terrorism and serious crimes. The new rules were to enter into force around March 31.
At the end of March, before this time, the Department for Internal Security suspended the Plan for Visa for Romanians, to make a review, which concluded that designation in the Visa Waiver program should be canceled to protect the integrity of the program and to ensure the security of border and immigration.
“We are grateful for the close partnership of Romania over the years to strengthen the cooperation in the field of security. Romania can be reconsidered for admission (within the visa renunciation program) in the future,” said Deputy Secretary Tricia McLaughlin.
Romania was the 43rd country admitted to the program-and the fourth country added under the leadership of Biden, after Croatia, Israel and Qatar.
The program has increased the number of tourists from countries that are received in the program because they facilitate their journey to the United States.
The Romanian Embassy in Washington did not immediately respond to a comment request from Reuters.
In March, foreign tourists who arrived in the United States decreased by about 10% worldwide, according to government data.
American citizens can visit Romania for up to 90 days for visa -free tour or business purposes, notes Reuters.
