Following the presidential elections 2025, the President of Romania is elected for a 5 -year term. The polling stations open on Sunday, from 7:00, for the Romanians who vote in the country. Romanians who live abroad or are in this period on a vacation abroad can vote during three days, on Friday, May 2, 7:00 local time, at any polling station.

Over 18 million voters are expected at the ballot box to choose the president between the 11 candidates registered in the Cotroceni race at the 2025 presidential elections.

In Romania, 18,979 polling stations will be opened on Sunday, according to the Permanent Electoral Authority. 1,289 sections will work in the Capital. Romanians with voting rights in the diaspora vote, on Friday, May 2, in 965 sections organized for the presidential elections 2025.

Who has the right to vote and who not at the presidential elections 2025

They have the right to vote for Romanian citizens who are 18 years old until the day of elections inclusive.

  • They do not have the right to vote the weak or mental alienations, placed under prohibition, nor the persons convicted of the loss of electoral rights, by final court decision.

What is the program of the polling stations in presidential elections 2025

On Sunday, May 4, when the first round of presidential elections takes place, the polling stations will open at 7:00 and will close at 9:00 pm.

At presidential elections 2025, the voters who at 21.00 are at the headquarters of the polling station, as well as those who are in a row outside the polling station headquarters to enter the voting premises can exercise their right to vote until at most 23.59, according to the Permanent Electral Authority.

The same program will be valid on April 18, at the second round of the presidential elections 2025.

For presidential elections 2025 in the country, almost 19,000 polling stations will be opened.

How can you find out at which voting section to vote in the presidential elections 2025

Romanians can vote in presidential elections 2025 at one of the following open polling stations in Romania:

  • If it is in the administrative-territorial unit where it has its domicile or residence, a person can only vote at the polling station at which the street or locality is shown or residence, according to the law;
  • If he is in another administrative-territorial unit than the one where he has his domicile or residence, he can vote at any polling station in the country, on additional lists;
  • If he is abroad, he can vote at any polling station organized abroad;
  • If he fulfills the position of member of the electoral bureau of the polling station or computer operator of the electoral bureau of the polling station or ensures the order, he votes at the polling station where he operates;
  • If it has reduced mobility, it can vote on any polling station that ensures its vote access.

To find out the polling station to which its address is also, the citizens who vote in presidential elections 2025 can access registulactoral.ro. After entering the personal data, the voter finds the polling station to which its address is rounded. Even so, they can vote on the additional lists of another polling station.

What documents do you need to vote on presidential elections 2025

At presidential elections 2025, voters can vote with an identity card valid on the day of voting, issued by the Romanian state, respectively:

  • identity card;
  • Electronic Identity Book;
  • provisional identity card;
  • the identity card;
  • diplomatic passport;
  • Electronic diplomatic passport;
  • service passport;
  • Electronic service passport;
  • the military service book (in the case of students in military schools).

The simple passport, the simple electronic passport and the temporary simple passport can be used for the exercise of the voting right only by the Romanian citizens who vote abroad or by the Romanian citizens with their domicile abroad who vote in Romania.
