The United States contacted China regarding possible negotiations regarding the disputed duties – a spokesman for the Ministry of Trade in Beijing said on Friday. The PRC authorities “currently assess” Washington's proposals and expect “honesty” from the US and readiness to withdraw from the imposed tariffs.

“If the US wants to talk, they should show honesty, be ready to correct incorrect practices and cancel unilateral duties,” said a spokesman of the ministry that was not mentioned by name.

The spokesman argues that without this gesture “further harm to mutual trust between the parties is inevitable.” He emphasized that “saying something else, and doing something else, or even an attempt to coercion and blackmail under the guise of conversations will not work.”

The commercial dispute has exacerbated in April, when American duties came into force, reaching up to 145 percent. on many Chinese products. In response, Beijing imposed a tariff of 125 percent. for imports from the USA.

Although some high-tech products, such as smartphones, have obtained temporary release from additional fees, dozens of countries are in the face of the July date to conclude an agreement with Washington to avoid higher rates.

Until now, the PRC's authorities have denied any talks with the USA despite the statements of US President Donald Trump's administration that both sides were in contact.

On Thursday, the Secretary of the US Treasury Scott Bessent in an interview with Fox Business Network expressed the belief that “China wanted to reach an agreement, (but) it will be a multi -stage process”, adding that “deester” is necessary first.

China strongly announced that they would fight in the trade war to the end if the need arises. At the same time, Beijing admits that global economic turmoil burden the Chinese economy, which has long been dependent on exports, and companies oriented on foreign markets encounter difficulties.
