On Wednesday morning, Călin Georgescu arrived at the headquarters of the District 1 Court in Bucharest to challenge the extension of the judicial control measure, ordered by the General Prosecutor's Office a few days ago, according to Agerpres.

Before the court, Georgescu was greeted by an important gendarmes and dozens of supporters.

The former presidential candidate is criminally investigated for six offenses, the most serious being the instigation of actions against the constitutional order, in an attempt form.

Georgescu is accused of being planned to destabilize the Romanian state, with the help of mercenaries coordinated by Horațiu Potra, in the context of the annulment by the Constitutional Court of the first tour of the presidential elections.

On April 24, it was officially informed that the measure of judicial control is extended by another 30 days. During this time, he is obliged to present himself periodically at the Ilfov County Police Inspectorate and has the prohibition to leave the country without the agreement of the authorities. Also, it is not allowed to publish on the social networks messages of a legionary, fascist, anti -Semitic, racist or xenophobic character.

In a previous statement, it qualified the measure as “abuse“And said that the file is one”instrumental political”.

Georgescu was removed from the presidential race on March 9, when the Central Electoral Bureau invalidated the candidacy, invoking a December 2024 decision of the Constitutional Court, which annulled the results of the first round of the elections.
