The independent candidate for presidential Daniel Funeriu asked Nicușor Dan, at the TVR's electoral debate, why he was called all day to be asked to withdraw in his favor. “I do not think we have to give so much importance to your candidacy,” Dan replied.

“Why did my phone call my phone today to retire in favor of Nicușor Dan? I want to know this, because all day today the phone called for this, Nicușor?”, Asked Funeriu on the current mayor of the capital.

“I have an appreciation for you as a scientist, as a man involved in society. However, I do not think we have to give so much importance to your candidacy. The answer is obviously negative. But, if I still have a question, I want to come back to reasons why we are here – Romania needs a president and a direction, there is four people. Antonescu, Mr. Ponta and the undersigned ”, Nicușor Dan replied.

“How ugly,” Elena Lasconi reacted, and Lavinia Șandru, the candidate, asked the general mayor to say if it was true that he asked for Daniel Funeriu to withdraw and ask why.

Daniel Funeriu responded to the general mayor, telling him that he worked with a Nobel laureate and a country president that “no one told me I was irrelevant.”

Sebastian Popescu, a candidate from the new Romania's party, threatened that, if Nicușor Dan does not apologize, he will leave the debate.

“We look at who speaks a lot, but now I am disturbed by Mr. Nicușor Dan's assertion and if he does not apologize for what he said, that only four are relevant, the rest we are filling, I will leave this debate. We are in the Cotroceni Palace, not in a slum,” said Sebastian Popescu, while I was applauded by Crin. Lavinia Șandru.

Nicușor Dan returned to the statement and said that he respects all the candidates, the vote of each Romanian and that, in his opinion, the useful vote is very important:

“I specify what I said, I respect all the candidates, I respect the vote of each Romanian, but we must look at a sociological reality, what the Romanians want. This is my evaluation about the competition in which we are. It is not the first time I have expressed it, I think it is honest in a presidential debate to tell people what we think is very important.”
