According to the Financial Times, Spotify plans to increase individual subscriptions by equivalent to EUR 1 (approx. 4.30 PLN) On markets outside the USA – in Europe and Latin America. Changes in fees are to enter into force at the earliest in June, but they will not cover the United States, which are the largest music market.

Streaming 2.0 on the horizon

The music industry has been putting pressure on streaming platforms for some time to raise fees for subscriptions. Prices of subscriptions are rising more slowly than inflation and compared to video subscriptions, e.g. Netflix, are still quite low. For example, in the US, Spotify currently costs USD 11.99, while 14 years ago it was USD 9.99.

The industry, looking for ways to increase its value, also opt for the introduction of “streaming 2.0”, which would additionally offer paid premium functionalities. It is said that Spotify is considering charging fees, e.g. for earlier access to your favorite music or tickets for concerts as part of the “Super-Remiem” level, but this is not yet a foregone conclusion.

How much do we pay at the competition?

Spotify introduced the last increases in Poland a year ago. Currently, we pay PLN 23.99 for the individual plan, for the student variant – PLN 12.00, duo – PLN 30.99, and for the Family Plan PLN 37.99. Spotify, so far, has not commented on reports of new prices, and it is not known whether the increases will cover all plans or only basic.

Next to Spotify, Polish consumers have access to competitive streaming services such as Tidal, Apple Music and YouTube Music. Depending on the service, we will use them from the trial period, we can also choose a family plan (up to 6 people).
