Nicușor Dan clarifies the relationship with Matei Păun: “Obviously I answer the phone. He will not hold any position”

Nicușor Dan, the independent candidate in the presidential elections, told the presidential debate on Monday night, that the businessman Matei Păun has no official role in his campaign and will not hold any position in his eventual presidential term.

Asked if he intends to answer the phone in the next 5 years, Dan stressed that, although he consults him occasionally, he is not financially supported by Păun and rejects speculation regarding his influence.

“Matei Păun is not my head of campaign, he will not have any position at the Cotroceni Palace. Had 3 opinions 10 years ago, are not my opinions“, Nicușor Dan said.

Attended that he did not answer the question, Nicușor Dan replied sharply: “Obviously I answer the phone to a man I collaborated with”.

The candidate also said in other media interventions that the “mythology” created around Matei Păun has no foundation and that he did not have personal businesses in the ex-Soviet space, but worked for an active Western company in that area.
