The son of an American official, killed in Ukraine after enrolling to fight for the Russians

A 21 -year -old American, Michael Alexander Gloss, signed a contract with the Russian Defense Ministry and was killed in the war with Ukraine in 2024, the History Publication found. His mother, Julianne Gallina Gloss, is Deputy Director for Digital Innovation within the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), reports the History Investigation site.
History journalists, a Russian investigation site that moved to Latvia to bypass the censorship established by Moscow after the Ukrainian war launched, found that Gloss signed a contract with Russian armed forces by analyzing data from the unified information and medical analysis system (Emias). It became public following a leak of information.
The employees of the Moscow Military Recruitment Center introduced the name of Gloss in the database on September 5, 2023. As a residence address, as in the case of several other foreign recruits, the address of the recruitment center in Moscow was passed: Iablocikova Street no. 5, building 1, apartment 302. The medical office for examination within the center has the same number.
According to a History source that knew the Gloss well, the American was sent to assault units in December 2023. At that time, units of the 137 Regiment were operating in the northwest of soleddar in the Donetk region. Gloss was killed on April 4, 2024 his family confirmed the information in an obituary published in the US local press.
“Michael came to this world in a hurry on an snowy evening in December 2002,” his family wrote in the obituary. “When he was a child, Michael was affectionate and curious, he had a gift for building and a deep love for nature and all her lives. Gloss was born into a family of military. His mother, Julian Gallina Gloss, graduated from the United States Naval Academy and became the first female cadets of the Academy in the 1990s. She spent over 30 years in information services, serving in the US Marina and holding various functions in the army, public service and industry.
Over the past six years, Julian Gloss has continued his career at the US Central Intelligence Agency. In February 2024, he was appointed deputy director for digital innovation at the CIA.
“I am committed to accelerating the digital transformation of my agency to maintain a strategic advantage for our nation,” Gloss wrote on the LinkedIn business social network.
Michael's father, Larry Gloss, is also a US Marine veteran and has a medal for his participation in the famous Dessert Storm, US coalition invasion in Iraq in the early 1990s.
Larry Gloss has spent his entire life working in cyber security, especially at the National Interest Security Company, which serves the US national interests. He now runs a company that creates security software for customers, including the US government, US defense department and other NATO countries.
Gloss wrote that he ran away from home, finally reaching Russia
On his Vkontakte page, the Russian equivalent of Facebook, Michael wrote: “I ran away from home. I traveled the world.” As the sources that spoke with Historyhe never said directly why he decided to leave the US.
In a chat channel on Telegram, when he was asked, “Are you from the States?”, Michael replied, “Unfortunately, I was born here.” Since April 2022, he had posted a video with the American flag burning.
“It did not match the ideology of the United States at all,” Michael's Russian friend told History Ivan.
Michael was buried in his Natal County Fairfax, near Washington, eight months after his death. The exact circumstances of his death in Ukraine are not known.
Michael Gloss is one of the more than 1,500 foreigners who passed through the Russian military recruitment center during the Ukraine war, whose identity was established by History. In total, mercenaries from 48 countries, including EU and US member states, fight on Russia.
