A state -of -the -art autonomous bus, produced by the Turkish company Anadolu and called Karsan, was presented for the first time in Iasi. The vehicle, 8.5 meters long, can be controlled including from a distance, through an operational center, reports Ziarul de Iași.
Although it attracted the eyes of the curious during the demonstration, the bus cannot move legally in Romania at this time. According to current legislation, driver -free vehicles are not allowed. Moreover, not only the law must be changed, but also the road infrastructure: it requires smart traffic lights, but also a functional 5G network.
The bus is equipped with modern technologies: 11 video cameras, 8 of which are located outside, many sensors, radars and a high -performance GPS system.
The demonstration took place on the route of Casa Pelrinului – IC Brătianu Street – Cuza Voda street (on the tram line) – Unirii Square – Stefan cel Mare Boulevard – Pelerinului House.
In other countries, such vehicles are already a reality. In Norway, autonomous buses have been circulating for 3 years.
Currently, Romania still has to take a few steps until such buses become part of daily traffic.
