Cars are increasingly digitized in the age of software and autonomous management. Mercedes-Benz has created the completely digitized, electronic direction, which no longer uses a steering column, but only electrical signal. The first effect: a new steering wheel, similar to the aircraft sleeve.
Mercedes-Benz is preparing to introduce in the series production the new steer-by-wire direction, in free translation “cable direction”, which represents, practically, fully electrical controls transmitted through a steering wheel that no longer uses the command through a mechanical steering column, with rack, but by an electrical signal that goes to the electric steering.
