S1 expressway. Opening of a new picturesque episode in October

The General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) announced that the work on the S1 expressway between Przybędza and Milówka is coming to an end. The new route will not only improve communication in the region, but also will become one of the most picturesque roads in Poland.
According to GDDKiA, the S1 expressway on the Przybędza -Milówka section will be commissioned at the end of October 2025. This means that drivers will be able to use the new route in a few weeks.
The S1 expressway, which is part of the 6th corridor of the trans-European transport network (TEN-T), is of strategic importance for connections between the Baltic Sea Pool countries and South Europe. The route begins on the A1 motorway in Pyrzowice, and its southern section leads to the border with Slovakia in Zwardoń.
S1 – in October the opening of the most picturesque road in Poland
One of the most important fragments of this route is the Przybędz -Milówka section, which due to its location and infrastructure gained the title of the most picturesque road in Poland.
Five flyover was built on the Przybędza -Milówka section, including the longest of nearly 1 km long, which runs at the height of the treetops, offering drivers unforgettable panoramas of the Beskids. In addition, three bridges were created with a total length of 2.3 km and two twelfth tunnels with a total length of over 1.8 km.
S1 – a pearl of Polish roads?
Each of the tunnel naves was designed for the comfort and safety of drivers – they were equipped with two 3.5 m wide lanes, safety bands and evacuation pavements. The section between the tunnels has a dual carriage and two -lane cross -section, while before and behind the tunnels the road goes into a uniform carriage with two lanes in each direction.
The first tunnel, 830 m long, runs through the massif of the Barania Góra, while the second, 1 km, is located in the area of Białożyński Gronia, closer to Zwardoń. Both tunnels are connected by three transverse transitions, which increases their functionality and safety.
Construction of the southern section of S1, covering the so -called The bypass of Węgierska Górka, began in October 2019 and will last almost six years – a year longer than originally assumed. The investment cost amounted to approximately PLN 1.38 billion.
Completing works on the Przybędza-Milówka section means closing the construction of the southern part of S1, which will connect Bielsko-Biała with Zwardon. The new route will improve not only local traffic, but also the transport of goods towards the border with Slovakia.
