The Trump administration wants to reorganize the State Department, abolishing dozens of units – Bloomberg


The 16-page draft document that the agency got acquainted can cause one of the largest reorganizations of the State Department since its formation in 1789.

We are talking about the intention to abolish “dozens of posts and departments” of the State Department, including those who are engaged in climate, refugees, democracy and Africa, as well as the bureau of international organizations that maintains contact with the organization of the United Nations.

A sharp reduction in diplomatic operations in Canada is also supposed, Bloomberg emphasizes.

According to him, the State Department wants to reorganized in four regional bureaus, which will cover the Indo-Pacific region, Latin America, the Middle East and Eurasia. It is planned to close part of the “insignificant” embassies and consulates in the countries of Africa south of Sakhara.

Bloomberg draws attention to the fact that earlier the project of the Decree of Trump on the reorganization of the State Department was written by the New York Times, but on the social network X Secretary of State Marco Rubio called this material “fake news.”




The agency writes that for the US Diplomatic Service, they want to develop a new exam in order to determine how job seekers correspond to Trump's “foreign policy vision”.

The draft Decree stipulates that all the positions and responsibilities that will be in the US State Department after reorganization must approve Trump in writing personally.

Context

The US State Department website states that its staff consists of 13 thousand diplomatic service employees, 11 thousand civil servants and 45 thousand local employees in more than 270 diplomatic missions around the world.
