The patient received PLN 202,971 from the Medical Events Compensation Fund – said the Office of the Patient Ombudsman. This is the highest compensation granted so far by the Patient Ombudsman Bartłomiej Chmielowiec.

The Medical Event Compensation Fund at the Patient Ombudsman allows the injured person during the hospital stay to obtain financial compensation on the out -of -court path. Compensation is granted for bodily damage, health disorder or hospital infection. In the event of the patient's death, his family members may apply for a benefit.

The MPC announced that it was announced that Record compensation applies to a patient who has been diagnosed with a lamp tumor with a delay of over 15 monthsi. The reason for the delay was incorrect diagnostic proceedings. The patient had problems with hoarseness, snoring and free breathing. During surgical treatment of tonsil hypertrophy and nasal septum, the operator did not perform a thorough assessment of the larynx. The delay in detecting the cancer resulted in the need to completely remove this organ, and consequently complete loss of speech. The announcement emphasized that the early detection of the cancer increases the chances of saving the larynx and significantly improves the prognosis in the treatment of this disease.

Due to permanent damage to health, nuisance and deterioration of the quality of life, the Patient Ombudsman granted a patient from the Medical Compensation Fund an amount of PLN 202,971. In addition, the patient received a certificate entitling to use out of order from healthcare services and pharmaceutical services provided in pharmacies.

“The next months of the Medical Event Compensation Fund show that this out -of -court pursuit of claims is beneficial for patients, but also that it is becoming more and more popular in society,” said patient spokesman Bartłomiej Chmielowiec, quoted in the communiqué.

The RPP office said that from the beginning of the fund's operation, over PLN 19 million for PLN 318 was awarded, of which 99 percent. patients and applicants accepted the benefit. The average amount of the benefit granted amounted to over almost PLN 61 thousand. Most cases that influenced the Patient Ombudsman under the Medical Events Compensation Fund concerned patients aged 66-75 (26.7 percent) and 56-65 (16 percent). 18.73 percent concerned patients from the Masovian Voivodeship, and 11.17 percent from the Śląskie Voivodeship. Medical events for which benefits were granted most often affected orthopedic departments, general surgery, hospital emergency departments as well as obstetrics and gynecological and internal medicine.

The procedure for obtaining compensation from the Medical Events Compensation Fund is faster than the years of court proceedings that are sometimes ongoing. This is due to, among others from the fact that obtaining a benefit does not require the guilt of the medical facility. The maximum amount is over 220 thousand. zloty. On the court path, victims or their loved ones can apply for higher amounts of compensation as well as compensation and pension.
