The President of Russia announced that the Easter truce will start at 17 Polish time and will last for 30 hours. “The reaction to the Easter truce will show how honest Kiev's abilities and willingness are to participate in peace conversations,” said the Russian President. An hour and a half after the truce began, the Ukrainians reported, however, about the fire of their position by the Russians.
American journalists commented on this decision. In their opinion, it is a symbolic sign of Putin's readiness for peace conversations. “This step of Putin is to show the impatient administration of the American leader Donald Trump that Russia is still ready to negotiate,” we read in “NYT”.
War in Ukraine. Moscow puts the conditions of a truce
The Russian Ministry of Defense also issued a message on the Easter truce. “On the eve of Easter, all group commanders in the Special Military Operation Zone issued a fire to stop fire from 18:00 Moscow time on April 19 to 00:00 Moscow time on April 21” – said the Russian Ministry of Defense.
This is the second suspension of weapons during the war in Ukraine. The first of them was announced in 2023 on the occasion of Christmas – from 12.00 Moscow Time on January 6 to 24.00 Moscow time on January 7. At that time, the fighting could not be stopped, and Kiev and Moscow were switching to each other responsibility for this state of affairs.
