The US did not agree to restore direct flights between the United States and Russia – said on Thursday Jurij Ruszakov, adviser to Russian leader Vladimir Putin. According to Washington, the arms suspension in Ukraine should first become effective – he added.

“For now, Americans believe that you need to achieve some progress in the Ukrainian direction, and only later (you can) talk about air connections, although it seems to me that this would be a completely logical decision” – said Uszakow, quoted by the Moscow Times portal.
After Russia began an invasion against Ukraine in February 2022, Europe and the US closed airspace for Russian airlines.
According to Moscow Times, the restoration of flights was one of the topics of conversations conducted at the beginning of April in the USA by Putin's adviser – Kiriłła Dmitryjew.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, however, said after Dmitry's visit that he “did not hear” about plans to restore direct cruises between states. (PAP)
