Crin Antonescu regrets the statement with the execution of drug traffickers on stadiums: “It is an unfortunate statement although I did not want to be so”

The candidate of the PNL-PSD-UDMR-WINTERITIES CRIN ANTONESCU says, in an interview with RFI Romania, that he regrets the statement on Thursday at Antena 3 CNN on the execution of drug dealers and says that the situation in which our country is now is a failure of the Romanian state.
About the statement on Thursday night, Crin Antonescu says she was an unfortunate one, which she regrets and catalogs the recent case in which a 20 -year -old died as a result of drug use as an odious episode.
“It was a statement that, if you want, a regret. It is an unfortunate statement although I did not want to be so. I simply expressed indignation under the empire of emotion. This episode with this boy who died, Rareș, (…) It is an absolutely odious thing,” said the candidate of the electoral alliance “.”
He also stressed that, if he arrives in Cotroceni he will not request the reintroduction of the capital punishment.
“No one should ask the problem that I will ask for something like this or for anything else the reintroduction of the death penalty.”
As for the situation in which Romania is located when it comes to combating drug trafficking, the Coalition candidate says it is a failure of the Romanian state and the parties from the government.
“It is a failure of the Romanian state in the end (…). It is a failure and these parties (n.red: PSD, PNL, UDMR), because I do not think that the other alternatives are much more, these parties, these governments, this government must do more,” added Crin Antonescu.
In the same interview, Antonescu also spoke about the fact that he wants to reform the National Anti -Drug Agency, to reorganize it on the American model.
“My program proposes a reorganization of the National Anti -Drug Agency, on the American model, that is, with a lot of power, with a lot of cooperation and with absolutely determined targets, to try to combat this phenomenon, from traffickers. This is why maximum penalties, without exemptions, reductions of punishments for the dealers, for the other, for the other, for the other. Many, ”says Antonescu.
Antonescu's initial statement
Asked on Thursday night at Antena 3 CNN about the case of the 20 -year -old who died this week after a drug overdose, Crin Antonescu said he was “a terrible episode” and that an idea he proposes through his presidential program is the reorganization of the National Anti -Drug Agency (Ana).
“Maximum harshness for traffickers, maximum! I honestly tell you, if I could, I know you can't, here I would like China, shoot them on the stadium.
He also stated that he does not intend to reintroduce the death penalty.
“I just wanted to give a voice to a feeling that I think all those who lead Romania should have when I see something like this. Think about being your child who agonized there and who died! Think they came to a dehumanization hall that they could attend it! (…) Antonescu.
The presidential candidate believes that drug traffickers “must be punished with maximum harsh”.
Expert: “The capital punishment does not discourage any kind of crime”
Vlad Zaha, a criminologist specialized in public drug policies has commented, for HotNews.ro, the statement of Crin Antonescu.
“As realistic as possible, such statements are similar to those of the former President of the Philippines, Rodrigo Durte, recently entered the custody of the International Criminal Court for Crimes against Humanity due to the war against the drugs and which generated the killing of tens of thousands,” Vlad Zaha said.
“The international consensus is that the capital punishment does not discourage any kind of crime, compared to prison, is a safe source of conviction of the innocent and is used abusively against the vulnerable or minority (where it is still) that has been abandoned by over 100 countries in the last 50 years,” the European Union has been forbidden.
On Friday morning, at RFI, Crin Antonescu said he agrees with everything the expert says, less with the comparison with the former President of the Philippines: “Except comparison with the respective character, because I did not even ask for the re-introduction of the death penalty. With this exception, his reign is right.”
