Americanist: Trump's electorate has been fed with anti -Ukrainian propaganda for years

For years, the electorate of President Donald Trump has been fed with various sources of anti -Ukrainian propaganda – the Americanist from the Jagiellonian University Dr. Rafał Kuś said in a commentary for PAP. He expressed the belief that Trump's arrogant statements were to put pressure on the authorities in Kiev.

Trump's statements regarding the war in Ukraine are characteristic of his rhetorical style, taken from social media, “where repeated, short slogans and expressive epithets work best” – emphasized the expert.
“Trump's style is devoid of any signs of decorum that we would expect from the official messages of the US President, but apparently he resonates well among his electorate” – noted the Americanist from the Krakow university.
Trump has repeatedly blamed Ukraine for starting a war with Russia. Four days ago, on April 14, he said that his predecessor Joe Biden and the President of Ukraine did “absolutely terrible job, allowing this farce to happen”, or war.
“These statements are of course absurd, but they undoubtedly have a deeper meaning in the Trump's strategy. The Republican administration, first, does not care about Ukraine, which he willingly devote to normalizing relationships with Russia and gaining its support in the upcoming conflict with China,” the expert emphasized. However, in his opinion, this approach “seems quite naive”.
“Secondly, it seems that Trump – as an emotional and memorable politician, with an extremely sensitive ego, and with the history of contacts with Russia dating back to the 1980s – feels much more sympathy for (Vladimir) Putin than to (Volodymyra) Zelanski” – continued Kuś. He reminded that Trump's first attempt at Trump's impeachment during his previous term (2017-21) was associated with a matter of exerting pressure on Zelanski through the White House.
“From a Polish point of view, this is very unfavorable, but I do not think that Trump is interested in it. However, such statements go, naturally, on a very susceptible ground among the base electorate of Trump, for years fed – from sources of different provenance, let us emphasize this – anti -Ukrainian propaganda” – the expert pointed out.
The PAP interlocutor expressed the belief that it is difficult to say, “how much Trump genuinely believes in what he says about Ukraine, and how much he thinks that he pursues some political goals in this way.”
“However, it is certain that Trump's full arrogance are to put pressure on the Ukrainian authorities to accept the not necessarily favorable peace system with Russia,” he added.
Kuś pointed out that this aggressive attitude was seen on February 28 during the meeting of Trump and JD Vance with Zełnski in the White House, when there was a quarrel between the politicians.
“It seems to me that Donald Trump is trying, no matter what cost, to end the armed conflict and announce success. The problem is that the Russians know it perfectly and squeeze out of this system as much as they can” – said the Americanist from the Jagiellonian University.
He pointed out that Trump is surrounded by people with a pro -Russian point of view. According to him, this can be seen in his nominations to key positions in the new administration, including In the case of Tulsi Gabbard, national intelligence director. In the opinion of the expert, Gabbard has been presenting in the media that converged in the media with Russian messages of the day.
He also noted that Robert F. Kennedy became the new head of the Health Department, Jr., whose statements duplicate the anti -vaccination propaganda supported by the Kremlin.
According to an Americanist from the Jagiellonian University, Trump's international sympathies were also visible during the recent announcement of customs duties on imports from abroad. “Although the new duties were burdened with traditional US allies, the Russian Federation was not covered by them,” he noted.
The economic advisor of US President Kevin Hassett explained that Russia was not covered by any new American duties because it is currently during peace conversations. Hassett said that the US does not want to complicate negotiations with additional trade issues, because it could negatively affect the whole process. (PAP)
