The head of the Ministry of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz announced an increase in the number of Polish soldiers stationed in Latvia. The deputy prime minister emphasized that Poland and Latvia want to invest in the arms industry together. He also pointed to the need to develop an algorithm of proceedings against the Shadow Fleet.
On Thursday, the head of the Ministry of National Defense visited the Polish military contingent in Adazi, Latvia. During the conference with the Latvian Minister of Defense Andris Spruds, Kosiniak-Kamysz announced that the Polish military contingent in Latvia would be increased. As he said, in June the contingent will be strengthened by a specialist unit of chemical forces.
He calculated that the contingent currently has about 190 people. “There will be 40 soldiers related to chemical forces, and the entire military contingent in Latvia will reach 300 soldiers,” said the head of the Ministry of National Defense.
He also pointed out that the Latvian Sejm supported the termination of the Treaty of Ottawa on Wednesday, including use and production of anti -personnel mines. He added that the Polish parliament will soon deal with the termination of the Ottawa Convention. “Together with the Baltic States, but also recently joined Finland, so the entire eastern flank of NATO north of Poland is making this decision” – noted Kosiniak -Kamysz.

As he said, Poland and Latvia want to invest together in the arms industry. He also assessed that the “Baltic Store” (Baltic Sentry) should be a permanent operation and should be strengthened by other countries that do not lie on the Baltic Sea. “We want to be at the European or NATO level. The algorithm of proceedings regarding activities against the shadow fleet, against ships or ships that violate the safety of critical infrastructure,” said the deputy prime minister.
